Swift kicks
Saturday, April 21: Drop into Luna Lounge to check out the warm, slightly melancholy songs of Richard Swift, who’s on tour promoting his new record, “Dress Up for the Letdown,” on which he played most of the instruments himself. Get your lighters ready to wave in the air, especially when Swift plays the album’s title track, which is definitely our favorite.
8:30 pm at Luna Lounge (361 Metropolitan Ave. at Havemeyer Street in Williamsburg). $10 in advance, $12 day of. For information, visit
www.lunalounge.com.
You’re grounded
Sunday, April 22: Celebrate Earth Day with any number of activities around the borough — including the “Planet Brooklyn” festivities at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, which shows off recycled toys like the one pictured below. Consider it a chance to get a little greener than you were last year.
1 pm at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum (145 Brooklyn Ave. at St. Mark’s Avenue in Crown Heights). Free with $5 admission. For information, call (718) 735-4400.
Ferris wheelin’
Monday, April 23: “Then We Came to the End” author and Carroll Gardens resident Josh Ferris is reading from his debut novel tonight at Union Hall. The smart, snarky commentary on life in a cubicle is not to be missed, and you can drink beer from a real glass, not that coffee cup you’ve been using at work.
7:30 pm at Union Hall (702 Union St. at Fifth Avenue in Park Slope). Free. For information, call (718) 638-4400.
Poets know it
Tuesday, April 24: Head to the Heights tonight to hear poets who are included in “Broken Land,” read at the Brooklyn Historical Society. If the words of the lyrical words of the borough’s brightest talents aren’t enough for you, perhaps these are the ones that will catch your attention: refreshments will be served.
7:30 pm at the Brooklyn Historical Society (128 Pierrepont St. at Clinton Street in Brooklyn Heights). Free. For information, call (718) 222-4111.
No shame!
Thursday, April 26: Our pick for the best-named band in Brooklyn, The Shondes, are bringing their pop-punk sound to Union Pool in Williamsburg tonight. The show is a benefit for the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls, a non-profit day camp that teaches New York City girls how to play musical instruments and start killer bands, like the Shondes.
8 pm at Union Pool (484 Union Ave. at Meeker Avenue in Williamsburg). Price to be determined. For information, call (718) 609-0484.
