Archivists looking for a pictorial timeline of Red Hook’s history need look no further than the Nelson Street wall of PS/MS/HS 27.

The locale’s illustrious past provided inspiration enough for budding Rembrandts from the 4th and 9th grades, who pooled their talents under the supervision of artists from Groundswell Community Mural Project and painted a mural based on the Red Hook’s origins and past dwellers on an exterior wall of the school, 27 Huntington Street.

The vibrant masterpiece, featuring a juxtaposition of Native Americans and pilgrims, was unveiled with a ceremony, and an awards presentation to participating students.

The project is part of ongoing community revitalization efforts at the school, also known as the Agnes Y. Humphrey School for Leadership.
