88th Precinct

Fort Greene–Clinton Hill

Soda jerk

A mean teen threw a bottle of soda at the conductor of a Queens-bound G train on March 14.

The 62-year-old victim told police that she was stopped at Clinton-Washington at 6:55 pm when the unruly perp chucked a half-full bottle at her face and fled.

The conductor was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital for injuries to her face and shoulder.

Car jackpot

A burglar hit the jackpot when he broke into a sedan on Clermont Avenue on March 17 — scoring a navigation system, clothes, and sunglasses.

The 26-year-old driver from Staten Island parked near Atlantic Avenue at 3 pm. When she returned the next day, her passenger-side window was broken and her stuff was gone.

Gang of four

Cops say they arrested a quartet of teens that beat up a man on Putnam Avenue for his glasses and $20.

The 31-year-old victim told police he was near Grand Avenue at 9:49 pm when the young attackers punched and kicked his face and body. One of the robbers stole $20 from his coat and another yanked his glasses and bracelet.

Police arrested three boys and one girl that night.

Train pain

A subway marauder punched a man on a New Lots Avenue-bound 3 train and stole his cellphone on March 13.

The 28-year-old victim told cops he was on the train playing video games on his mobile at 11:30 pm when the train stopped at Atlantic Avenue.

That’s when the thief whacked him in the face and yelled, “Why you stole my phone? That’s my phone!”

According to police reports, the perp stayed on the train.

Money grab

Some jerk lifted a woman’s pocketbook from under a stroller on Atlantic Avenue and scored $1,000.

The 46-year-old victim told cops that she was in a building near Vanderbilt Avenue at 1:30 pm when her husband called her cellphone.

She set her purse under her stroller and met her husband outside. When she returned, her cash, cards, and BlackBerry were gone.

Exit wound

A cold-blooded crook slashed a man’s hand on Flatbush Avenue on March 14.

The 18-year-old victim told police he was near Atlantic Avenue at 4:55 pm when the knave sliced him with a box-cutter and fled.

The victim walked to Methodist Hospital.

Stephen from Fort Greene says:
See this is the problem. Those who are not privileged or working take from those who are either. The victims report the crimes but the class/color conflict comes into effect. Ironically speaking those who complain are minorities from working-class families hoping to shift the blame game onto something else. Let us all face the truth, being that all colors are poor in America with motives that are not so noble. But to say it here in New York means you are racist and one-close-minded. It should be understood already that minorities are not privileged along with whites, now asking "What should we do to solve this problem?"

SwampYankee from ruined Brooklyn says:
I see it as residents taking iCrap from hipsters. Maybe if the hipsters stop flashing thier iCrap on the train they would stop getting jacked or maybe the hipsters can just go back to the midwest where they can from. Hipsters call it gentrification, others view it as class warfare

SwampYankee,

Hmmm. So a teenager throws a bottle in the face of a Subway conductor all because of "gentrification" and a seething hatred of all "midwestern" hipsters? Or a bunch of teens beating up an innocent victim for his glasses? Since when are glasses "iCrap"? How about the hood that stole a woman's pocketbook from her stroller? Is that "class warfare" as you call it?

Anyman from The Stuy says:
Don't confuse SwampYankee with logic... he just needs to someplace to cry how he can't afford iCrap and life isn't fair, and somehow it's all the fault of hipsters. waaaah!

People can be as PC as they want to be but that's not going to change the fact that the vast majority of the violent crimes reported here week after week are committed by sociopathic black or hispanic males.

Echo from NYC says:
Everyone can be politically correct to the extent that they're satisfied. Unfortunately, Hispanics and black people with no consciences are doing most of the terrible crimes that are being reported here every single week.

oodles538, no one said all types of crimes are mostly committed by people of color, or that people of color are criminals in general. However, with regard to the violent crimes described in this column, there is no getting around the fact that almost all of the perps (and victims for that matter) citywide are people of color. Reflexively playing the race card anytime someone points this out misses the point. The reality is, the communities of color are going to have to do more to police themselves if they don't want the NYPD to do it for them.

"There's no such thing as halfway crooks!" I have seen you push around everyone at Alibi, yet in the 80's and 90's anyone from Park/Myrtle on up would have robbed you and your grandparents. You hope to take the place of Alpha Male, when before you took your clothes, leaving you walking in socks. Stop pushing around hipsters and come to terms with the fact you will never be pure rebels prior to others coming in. You live in areas better than the siblings of monsters in projects yet you tell Robert from Boston you hold it down? Yeah okay, meaning those who hipsters or others wanting to experience: Dont let these imposters dog you in a bar in front of your date. They didnt have the balls to do it at P.S.113 which was tall tales finest, then why now?

Most if not almost all violent street crime is committed by "people of color" whatever that is supposed to mean. If they were not busy being street and got themselves through school maybe and just maybe they could steal millions wuth a brifcaese.

all communities have to "police" themselves due to the fact that in all communities to have those that "good" and "bad"! only a certain percentage of the population always gets front page in the news more than others..."reflexively" the race card is always played by others..such is the case in florida..wearing a hoodie you are seen as a hoodlum or wearing a short skirt you are asking to be raped?? in our world there will be always the constant separation of races, gender, sexual orientation, etc. it is up to up to stop thinking in those terms. stereotypes do hurt for all of us..italians, blacks, latinos, caucasian, asian, etc. thanks for listening..
