Today’s news:

Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights Residents Suspect Prostitution at Area Spas

Sex on the side! Residents fear massage parlors house prostitutes

The Brooklyn Paper

These massage parlors are making people anxious!

Well, their neighbors, anyway.

Bay Ridge residents and civic leaders say that spas offering underhanded services — and advertising them in the seedier corners of the Internet — are popping up all over the neighborhood.

Neighbors complain that more than half a dozen massage parlors with dark windows and late hours have popped up in the neighborhood in the last six months, mainly on Fifth Avenue — and that the joints seem to primarily serve men seeking special treatment.

Some who are fearful of giving their name say that they don’t understand how so many could stay in business — unless something seedy was going on inside.

“It’s outrageous, how can you need this many spas?” said one resident, who declined to give her name. “I never see women going into these places.”

Neighbors claim Linda Day Spa on Fifth Avenue between 81st and 82nd streets routinely has scantily-clad girls hanging out in the doorway and the sidewalk outside.

“They aren’t going to be giving massages wearing those kinky outfits,” one Ridge woman complained.

But the parlor denied participating in any illicit activities.

“We just do regular massage,” the manager said, before hanging up on us.

A recent posting for Linda Day Spa on Craigslist.com — a site notorious for running ads for prostitutes — offered customers the opportunity to “enjoy a sweet young girl.”

The website Rubmaps.com — a self-described “erotic massage review site” that uses the slogan “Find your happy ending!” — has listings for more than a dozen neighborhood spas, with ratings and commentary from users.

“I gave a few signals and made some advances, and then she asked me what I wanted,” reads one review for Dream Bodywork on 99th Street near the corner of Fourth Avenue, before graphically describing a sexual encounter.

Repeated calls to Dream Bodywork went unanswered.

And the spas aren’t just in Bay Ridge.

A woman who lives nearby the Dyker Heights parlor Jia Li Spa on Fort Hamilton Parkway between 71st and 72nd streets — which is also advertised on Rubmaps — said she recently drove past the spa late at night and saw a man zipping up his pants as he exited the place.

“It was disgusting,” the resident said.

A worker at Jia Li claimed nothing illicit was happening at her business.

“It’s all legal,” the woman said.

Community leaders said that they have heard the public outcry over the spas, and they’re deeply concerned.

“We all see the same thing — more and more places advertising massage. It seems like there’s a new one every week,” said Community Board 10 chairwoman Joanne Seminara. “It definitely is a problem, and it needs to be investigated if there is illegal activity going on.”

A source in the 68th Precinct confirmed that they had received numerous complaints about the massage parlors, and said officers were investigating the situation.

Last summer, neighbors along 69th Street between Narrows Avenue and Shore Road complained that the Bright Ocean Spa — which advertises “exotic massage” with racy photos on another site that posts sex ads, Backpage.comwas a house of prostitution. Bright Ocean’s manager denied the charges.

Winston from Westminster Road says:
Coney Island Avenue near Cortelyou would welcome a massage parlor. A strip joint or two would also enliven the neighborhood. Prudes, fundamentalists, and conservatives dominate the area. It's time for a jolt of worldly entertainment.

No hard evidence Will!

Insinuation based on suspicion.

Do they have a licence?

Go inside Will - stop the smear - tell us what you find!

Craigslist? I bought a lawn mower on Craigslist.

I think Will has fallen for an old stereotype - Me rub you long time!

I think Will has issues with Asian women - do you think they are all insatiable Will?

Let the inner racist out!

"she recently drove past the spa late at night and saw a man zipping up his pants as he exited the place."

This woman is stupid. Does she think there are women giving blowies just inside the doorway and then shoves the guy out the door when done?!

She may not realize this, but even at a spa with $500 massages and rosewater enemas you need to take off your pants and sometimes you forget your zipper. A couple of weeks ago I realized my zipper was down walking out of Duane Reade... Does this woman think I just got a handy from the pharmacist? It's disgusting!

Bay Ridger from Bay Ridge says:
It's supply and demand folks. The spirit of American capitalism flourishes right here in little ol' Bay Ridge.

People should mind their own business.

Joey from Clinton Hills says:
I'm surprised these massage parlors do any business at all...I thought all the Bay Ridge guys were on the DL in Owl's Head park...and that action is free!

“It’s outrageous, how can you need this many ____?” said one resident

Substitute CVS, Coffee Shops, Cell Phone shops, banks, for "Spas" in the above sentance.

Ann from Bay Ridge says:
This is a very serious concern. There are many reputable spas in Bay Ridge. The "day spas" complained about in this article are not open to general public. They operate until the early morning hours - The issue of sex trafficking is not funny. It is serious. Sadly, many young immigrant women are imprisoned in this thriving industry in the United States- Sex traffickers enslave women against their free will.. If residents see suspicious activity it should be reported to authorities so they can investigate.
June 13, 2013, 5:30 pm
Jay from Bay Ridge says:
if they're sex trafficking and the women live inside the store overnight, then is it legal to live inside the store zoned for commercial?

maybe the city's department of mental hygiene and health get involve.

rex from bay ridge says:
To me its funny the people are watching these spas just assuming that they are more than they appear to be . I once went into one for a massage and I got a massage from an over 40 yr old woman . So unless its really changed , make the complaints . Let the police do their job and if there is anything they close . What bothers me is crazy growth of the muslim population in bay ridge . Im sorry but thars not Bay Ridge anymore . There is no way possible they are all legally here . That is way more of a problem to me than any harmless spas in the area ! Oh and let me mention that I went to the 5Th avenue festival a few weeks ago . There were so many muslims and the area was hardly recognizable . You even had a group of young muslim men running thru the festival with 2 arab flags ! Where the hell is Bay Ridge ?
June 13, 2013, 11:56 pm
scott from park slope says:
yes, Rex, heaven forbid Muslims should move to Bay Ridge. want to wave an Italian flag? awesome, no problem. want to cover your truck with Puerto Rican flags and rev your engine at the stop lights? sure, that's all fine. but a scary group of Muslims running through a street fair with 2 Arab flags? OMG call the FBI!!!

Rex, the Bay Ridge you are looking for has moved to the Jersey Shore. Go! Go join Snookie and the rest of your brothers and sisters.

Claire from Cobble Hill says:
You guys are gross.

Or from Yellow Hook says:
If you suspect that there is some element of bondage, indenture or sexual servitude, it would be quite simple to check the immigration status of employees, rather than conducting a witch hunt from the sidewalk.
June 14, 2013, 9:36 am
rex from bay ridge says:
your all a bunch of hypocrites that think what Bay Ridge has become is good . look at dearborne , michigan it started out the same way as what Bay Ridge is now . Go ahead accept this as something positive see how it goes . Sorry as for the so called massage parlors go , I would bet some of the guys here have been to one or more in their lives maybe in a different neighborhood ! So just because it hits your neighboorhood you all get excited because saigon sally might recognize you . Hypocrites all you liberal pansies !
June 14, 2013, 4:37 pm
ty from pps says:
I was just in Dearborne in January. It's quite nice. Everyone I encountered was very pleasant -- and lots of them were brown and oooooooo-sooooo-scary Muslims. Ya know, that jihadist barista. She was the worst. I'm sure she must be plotting away... she's going to destroy America by substituting decaf!

csmithy from bay ridge says:
@ rex: WOW DUDE Also, as someone living in Bay Ridge who is actually from southeast Michigan, Dearborn's actually pretty awesome. ???? Not all of it, but it's a nice place (with great food), and I don't at all see what you're trying to imply there.

@ topic: I have never noticed anybody standing outside in skimpy outfits around 81st st/5th ave, but maybe I'm not paying attention. I don't doubt that these sort of things happen, but this seems a bit sensationalized?
June 14, 2013, 10:58 pm
old time brooklyn from slope says:
I was in Bay Ridge yesterday and this topic came up (a b in law is retired cop and yes —— is going on and yes the cops know). BR turning into a little Iran/Iraq . A friend who is Coptic Catholic and speaks Arabic (parents run out of the desert) attests to constant anti American chatter he hears from the Arabs - its a fact - you don't like it KMA my WASC ass - mazel tov

if you don't believe the parlors are not fronts I have a bridge for sale. Human slavery and trafficking is very real. A few weeks ago a ring was busted in upstate NY.

Frenchy Sandboxx from santa monica , ca says:
you guys sound like the hipster jerkoffs that live in Bed Sty now
and think its wonderful . While they cant go out some nights because of bullets buzzing by their heads . I dont live in the Ridge anymore but have friends that still do and they think its still the same . I dont see the same as them , its changed a lot . the muslim issue is terrible there its bay ridgeistan not bay ridge anymore .

Mr. Bensonhurst from Bensonhurst says:
Omg there are all over, most are so young and yes
It's more than a simple massage...Happy ending as they call it...So sad ...parents walking their kids to school see this everyday...there are two places on Bay 25th and 86 st open late double park cars, men in and out.. What's being done?
June 15, 2013, 11:38 pm
Charles from Bay Ridge says:
Does the health department ever check these places?
If it's a real day-spa, like pilo arts on 3rd ave, that's quite nice. But if it's a front for a brothel, well that's illegal. If there is trafficking , someone needs to do something immeadiately !

MTO from Bay Ridge says:
Hey, TY, so, that explains it, rosewater enemas! No wonder there's nothing upstairs! Doing it proppa PH style. Brain bleed out!

Vito from Sheeps Head Bay says:
Mto, there's something wrong with this mamaluke, Ty. Desacration of Catholic statues are kiss crayons and not hate crimes, but deviate sex and exploitation of women are-- you know-- just brain cleansing. I think he has paid for one too many enemaes.
June 17, 2013, 6:38 pm
Frankie from Dyker Heights says:
LOL! I think TY prefers the lavender ones.

Wagner Grad Stud from Finnish Riviera, Sunset Park says:
I guess it was alright when Bay Ridge was populated with bars, and their coke whores. They are all but gone.

The only people left in Bay Ridge now are the former heroes, living off their city pensions, transferring their failures and regrets, into hatred and jealousy, towards the educated and young.
June 17, 2013, 8:45 pm
MTO from Bay Ridge says:
Wagner, I know that you will never be accused of being a former Hero. Making a positive difference for your fellow man,and sometimes paying for it with your life is a path that you could never follow. So, Grad Stud, is that why you are self-loathing ? An empty suit with a sheepskin who blames his failures on the old and the brave! Youngster, just wait and see what Life can throw at you! Probably born on third base and think you hit a home run.Let me guess you have an MBA ?.So, Mr young and educated, I suggest you read Shakespeare's Henry V , St Crispin's Day Speech. You will find there are no "former heroes" , but there are some angry "studs" as yourself who 'hold their manhoods cheap while any speaks that fought with us upon Saint Crispin's Day"
June 18, 2013, 10:13 am
Frankie from Dyker Heights says:
MTO, BRAVO ! I guess Ty probably attended that hallowed hall of higher education ,Wagner, up on lavender hill with grad stud.Goes to show you what privatization vs. merit can do for higher learning. You have the money-You have a Degree and a unearned sense of superiority. The sad thing is that these empty suits actually believe it. No sense of history or honor. Profit trumps all these days, the antithesis of what was fought for during the late 19th century and most of the 20th century which gave working Americans the highest standard of living in the World. Our Republic is going the route of a new Gilded Age, a new Plutocracy. Ayn Rand acolytes ! Makes you want to vomit.

Jack from Bay Ridge says:
What the **** do these massage parlors have to do with Muslims???

On another note: MTO and Frankie, lay off the drugs. You can do it!
June 18, 2013, 5:25 pm
MTO from Bay Ridge says:
Hey, Johnny Boy, so, Jack is your new AKA. We know you're a little off Jack or John or maybe Oz would be a good one, you know, flying monkeys and yellow brick roads. On another note: that drug or meds argument just shows you have no game ! Is it ADD?
June 19, 2013, 9:06 am
Mike from Bay Ridge says:
Guess Bay Ridge isn't the Utopia the residents keep telling themselves it is.
