TOMORROW: MTA to pitch L-train closure plans in Canarsie

Last stop — Canarsie

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is going to Canarsie to pitch its two L train tunnel-closure plans on May 26, following similar meetings in Williamsburg and Manhattan earlier this month.

The authority must repair the Canarsie Tube connecting Brooklyn and Manhattan following damage during Hurricane Sandy, and is deciding among two options — either sever the connection completely for 18 months, or drastically reduce service on the already overcrowded line for three years. Work would not begin before 2019, officials have said.

The agency plans to explain the two proposals to residents, listen to community concerns, and answer locals’ questions, according to a press release.

L train community meeting at Beraca Baptist Church (9602 Flatlands Ave. between E. 96th Street and Rockaway Parkway in Canarsie). May 26 at 6 pm.
