They’re charity champs!

The Alliance for Coney Island rallied local sports teams and businesses to raise more than $27,000 for Hurricane Harvey victims through its “Coney Cares” fund-raising initiative, which it announced earlier this month after the hurricane slammed Houston with historic rainfall.

Many of the participating businesses remember all too well the devastation of superstorm Sandy in 2012, and were happy to do their part to help Houstonites, said the executive director of the Alliance.

“We are proud to have brought together a variety of Coney Island businesses to raise funds for the victims of Hurricane Harvey,” said Alexandra Silversmith. “We hope these funds will assist in the recovery and rebuilding efforts in Houston and are a small token of support for the City.”

Many restaurants and businesses — including Applebee’s, the Coney Island Brewery, Nathan’s Famous, Luna Park, Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park, Gargiulo’s Restaurant, Totonno’s Pizzeria Napolitana, and Paul’s Daughter — donated part of their Sept. 9 profits to the initiative. And the New York Cosmos donated 50 percent of ticket sales and 100 percent of raffle-ticket sales from four September games to the fund.

The Alliance is donating all proceeds to the Greater Houston Community Foundation’s Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.

Separately, the Cyclones donated full proceeds from ticket sales for their Sept. 7 game against the hated Staten Island Yankees to Minor League Baseball Charities’ relief Hurricane Harvey efforts.
