A weekend of films and family fun

There is free fun for the whole family this weekend in the Ridge!

On Friday night, parkour your way to Leif Ericson Park (67th Street between Sixth and Seventh avenues) to take in the “Lego Ninjago Movie,” an animated flick about Lloyd the Green Ninja and his pack of secret ninja warrior pals taking down an evil warlord. Arrive before the 8:30 pm start to secure a spot on the lawn during the free 90-minute movie. Bring plenty of popcorn for the kids, but leave the adult beverages at home — or hidden.

On Saturday, wrangle the kids — or the kids-at-heart — and skip on down to Shore Road Park (Shore Road between 80th and 82nd streets) for its free Family Day. The three hours of festivities — including face painting, music, games, and arts and crafts — kicks off at noon.

Then take a break from shrieking kids and down a stiff drink in an adults-only environment: Red, White, and Brew (8910 Fifth Ave. between 89th and 90th streets). While you take in a drink, you can also take in a free show from Sha-Doobie, a Rolling Stone cover band, which plays from 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

Then bounce back to Shore Road Park (Shore Road and 79th Street) for another free, kid-friendly film under the stars. “Zootopia” tells the tale of a female rabbit-turned-police-officer who partners up with a sly fox to investigate a tough case. The nearly two-hour flick starts at 8:30 pm.

And on Sunday, end the weekend with a stroll along the Fifth Avenue Festival, which runs along its eponymous avenue from 69th to 85th streets, from 10 am until 6 pm. Parents can squeeze in some adult fun with three-on-three basketball games at Skinflints (7902 Fifth Ave. at 79th Street), or watch a belly dancer at Le Sajj (8221 Fifth Ave. between 82nd and 83rd streets), while kids can enjoy rides, games, and face painting.
