The non-profit organization working with developer Forest City Ratner on the affordable housing portion of the $4 billion Atlantic Yards project said they remain confident that the project will get done.
The 22-acre project at the Atlantic/Flatbush Avenues intersection includes the Nets arena and 6,400 units of housing, including 2,250 units for low- to middle-income residents.
“When this [Atlantic Yards] first happened, people were focusing on the arena, but economically and in every other way the affordable housing weaves this whole thing together,” said Bertha Lewis, Executive Director of NY ACORN, one of the nation’s largest grassroots organizations comprising low- and middle-income families.
NY ACORN is currently working with FCRC and the city and state to iron out the affordable housing component of the project.
