The Long Island Rail Road is looking to make the transition to Brooklyn a little easier for Long-Island based hockey fans who want to see their favorite team play in its new home rink.

And the plan ensures many won’t have to drive down Brooklyn’s already crowded streets to get to see the Islanders play.

“Park the car at your local LIRR station because Barclays Center is right across the street from our Atlantic Terminal station in Brooklyn,” said LIRR President Patrick A. Nowakowski. “There is just no faster or more convenient way to get to and from an Islanders game than the LIRR.”

Those heading to games on weekdays on the Hempstead and Far Rockaway branches will be able to travel directly to Atlantic Terminal, with a stop in Jamaica, without changing trains. All others will have to change at Jamaica for trains leaving every 15 minutes for the 15–20 minute ride to Barclays Center.

Coming home there will be two additional trains departing from Atlantic Terminal 20 minutes following the conclusion of each Islanders home game. They will stop at Jamaica and then Babylon and Farmingdale.

On weekends and holidays, there will be two additional trains both prior to and after the game heading west and east respectively. Post-game trains departing from Atlantic Terminal will run the same route as the weekday trains. Fans going round trip from and to Babylon or Farmingdale, and all local stops in between, will not have to change trains at Jamaica.

The train schedules will be displayed in real-time during Islanders games on monitors located in the area’s concourses and on the center-hung scoreboard. The train additions are just another way to make it easier for the Islanders’ longtime fan base to continue to cheer on its team in it new home.

“Throughout the Islanders relocation to Barclays Center, we have made it a priority to ensure that the team’s fans on Long Island follow the team to Brooklyn,” said Brett Yormark, CEO of Barclays Center. “We are proud to partner with the LIRR to announce additional trains that will make that process easier and more convenient for our Long Island fans.”

The Islanders open the season at Barclays Center Oct. 8.
