They’re political animals!

The People’s House became a dog house on Wednesday when pooches scurried into Borough Hall to listen to Borough President Adams announce his upcoming dog adoption event, and delighted staffers say it was anything but a dog day afternoon.

“It was so great,” said the Beep’s press secretary Patrick Rheaume. “My only regret is not having a tennis ball so we could play fetch in the plaza.”

Rheaume said the canines perked up their floppy ears as the Beep promoted his event in Marine Park this Saturday, where Brooklynites will be able to adopt animals from shelters across the borough.

Adams — who cuddled with newly adopted poodle Buddha after his remarks — had a dog growing up, but doesn’t have one now because he is too busy being the borough’s commander in chief, Rheaume said.

But he is hosting the event as a way to unite underprivileged dogs and cats with the new families that are ready to take on the responsibility of owning a new pet, he added.

“He often talks about how dogs are part of the family and is very interested in really allowing people to grow their families by bringing that shelter animal in,” he said.

Adopt-A-Shelter Animal Day at Marine Park Avenue U Parking Lot (Avenue U between Stuart and E. 33rd streets in Marine Park). April 30 from 11 am to 3 pm. Free.
