“American Idol” winner Fantasia will headline an Independence Day Salute to the Troops concert at Fort Hamilton Army Base on July 1.

Hosted by Shar Jackson of “Moesha,” the show will also feature performances by New Zealand’s Platinum Artist Titanium, season 13 “American Idol” finalist Stephanie Petronelli, and more. Immediately following the concert will be a fireworks display.

The Grammy Award-winning singer and reality show contestant says it’s important to give back to service members.

“Many of us are connected to the military in some way — family, friend, or a neighbor — so it is important for us as Americans to show our love of our heroes,” Fantasia said. “I am honored to be working with FMWR and Mission One Voice as part of this Independence Day celebration.”

Jackson also has ties to the military, and enjoys providing entertainment with Mission One, a service organization for troops that is sponsoring the concert along with Fort Hamilton’s Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation branch.

“My parents served our country, so I can really appreciate the work of Mission One Voice,” said Jackson. “It is an honor to be an Ambassador of Mission One Voice and to join the amazing Fantasia in saluting the troops for all they do for our country.”

And the director of Morale Welfare and Recreation says attendees need not be military personnel or families.

“Independence Day is a holiday that allows us to give back to those who have served and sacrificed defending our nation,” said Bob Vogt. “All are welcome to join us as we celebrate America’s birthday.”

The show will begin at 6 pm on Fort Hamilton’s Bluff near the community club. The gate will open at 5 pm.

Invited guests include active duty, reserve, and National Guard service members from all branches, West Point cadets, government employees, veterans, retirees, first responders, and their families.
