The Cyclones pulverized the Renegades in the rubber match of a three-game set thanks to a late-innings surge that turned a 2–1 deficit into 10–2 win — a victory that gave our boys a share of first place in the tough McNamara Division.
Down by a run with Dylan Tice on first and two outs in the sixth, the Clones took the lead when Brian Sharp’s double scored Tice, who had moved to second on a single by Wagner “College” LaGrange. They tacked on a run the following inning when Walter “Rabbi” Rasquin singled home Tice, who had singled and moved to second on a Carlos Cortez base knock.
Brooklyn pulled away in the top of the eighth when Sharp homered to right to lead things off.
The Clones scored one in the seventh before Sharp cracked a homer to start a six-run eighth inning. One out later, All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Ross Adolph tripled to plate Hayden Senger, who had singled, before Tice doubled home Adolph. Cortes then singled to plate Tice before Lagrange doubled to drive home Cortez and Rasquin, who had singled, making it 10–2 Clones.
Brooklyn ended the night with 19 hits.
Hudson Valley scored their pittance of two runs in the third and fourth innings.
Kyle Wilson earned the win by pitching five innings of two-run ball, striking out six and allowing five hits, before the triumvirate of Andrew Mitchell, Billy Oxford, and Ezequiel Zabaleta held the Renegades scoreless through the ninth.
With the win, Hudson Valley and Brooklyn are now tied at 34–26 in a dog fight for first place, with the hated Staten Island Yankees trailing by just one game in the loss column at 31–27.
Brooklyn buses it over to Tri–City tonight to face the Valley Cats at 7:05 pm.
