Christmas weekend has finally hit the Ridge!
Kick off the holiday weekend by going to bed, letting visions of sugar plums dance in your head! You need to rest up Friday night, because Yule have a wild Saturday!
Start by ambling over to the Kettle Black (8622 Third Ave. at 87th Street) to hear classic Christmas and rock tunes courtesy of the Bennett Brothers trio, who play classic ’60s and ’70s rock hits in addition to holiday favorites. And you can fill up on the eatery’s famous wings while you’re there! The free four-hour set starts at 3 pm.
Then stroll to Christ Church (7301 Ridge Blvd. between 73rd and 74th streets) for a narrated, full-cast version of the holiday classic “A Christmas Carol,” based on a script from the 1938 Orson Welles radio show. A group of 10 students, teachers, and professional actors from the Bay Ridge Vocal Academy will read the Dickensian ghost story, and proceeds from the $20 tickets ($10 for seniors and kids 11 or younger) will benefit the church. After the show, dance on down to the Wicked Monk (9510 Third Ave. between 95th and 96th streets) to celebrate the holiday weekend by rocking out to a concert by Wild Hearted Son. The quartet favors hard rock, classic rock, and ’80s hits, and will take the stage at 11 pm. The show will set you back $7.
Sunday is Christmas Eve, and with your relatives in town, you definitely don’t want to cook! So jingle all the way to the Greenhouse Café (7177 Third Ave. between 77th and 78th streets) for a three-course Christmas Eve dinner. The menu includes lasagna bolognese, salmon, roast pork loin, and shrimp scampi, along with chocolate mousse and cheesecake options for dessert — plus kid-friendly options like chicken parmigiana or (more likely) chicken nuggets.
