Cops arrest trio for Bensonhurst sewer break-in, fourth suspect remains at large

Three men were arrested after allegedly climbing into a Bensonhurst sewer system Monday evening, while at least one other suspect remains at large, according to police.

Officers responded to 911 calls about a group of people removing a manhole cover near 17th Avenue and 82nd Street around 5:10 p.m. on April 14. Witnesses told police that three individuals climbed underground while a fourth man remained aboveground as a lookout and replaced the cover.

According to an NYPD spokesperson, 25-year-old Zion McKenzie of Vinegar Hill, 39-year-old Willie Green of Fort Greene and 26-year-old Shawan Thompson of the Bronx, were arrested and charged at 10:47 p.m. Monday in the confines of the 62nd Precinct.

All three face charges of third-degree burglary, possession of burglar tools, fourth-degree criminal facilitation, and fourth-degree criminal mischief.

Police did not disclose what the men were doing in the sewer or whether anything was taken.

The investigation remains ongoing.
