Bike, kayak rentals to come to Jamaica Bay parks

If you’ve ever wanted to ride a bicycle built for two, or eight, for that matter, then head on out to some Brooklyn parks along Jamaica Bay later this month.

In a few weeks, the Wheel Fun Rentals will open locations in Marine Park, where it will rent zany-looking bikes with one, two, four, and even eight, seats at hourly, and potentially half-day and full-day rates. Some of the bikes break with tradition by featuring three or four, wheels, looking more like souped-up Big Wheels for adults than your standard Schwinn.

Wheel Fun Rentals was awarded a one-year license from the Parks Department and National Parks Service which sought to spruce up Floyd Bennett Field, Canarsie Park, and Plumb Beach, with the vehicles but didn’t receive any interest from businesses at those locations. The agencies have since abandoned efforts to provide rental stations in those areas until their agreement with Wheel Fun Rentals expires.

If the park agencies approve of how Wheel Fun Rentals performs this summer, the company will have the option of applying for three one-year renewals.

Cruiser bikes one hour: $12, half day: $25, full day: $32

City bikes one hour: $14, half day: $30, full day: $35

Tandem bikes one hour: $18, half day: $38, full day: $45

Kid’s bikes one hour: $8, half day: $18, full day: $25

Tag-A-Longs one hour: $8, half day: $18, full day: $25
