A Brighton Beach man who fatally shot his friend in the chest in 2015 was sentenced to 19 years in prison on Feb. 1.
Jeffrey McCrae shot and killed Natik Nissimov on Ocean Parkway near Avenue P on March 24, 2015, according to the district attorney’s office.
“This defendant showed a total disregard for human life when he fatally shot his friend to death,” said district attorney Eric Gonzalez.
McCrae was convicted on Dec. 11 of first-degree manslaughter and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. On top of the nearly two-decade sentence, he will also be supervised for a further five years following his release.
Emergency personnel found Nissimov unresponsive in the street following the shooting and brought him to Coney Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He had been shot at least once directly in the chest.
The shooting followed the stabbing of a mutual friend of McCrae and Nissimov earlier in the night of Nissimov’s death, according to the district attorney’s office, and McCrae had said he saw Nissimov pass a knife to the stabber. The district attorney’s office, however, said evidence indicated Nissimov had nothing to do with said stabbing.
McCrae was arrested in June 2015 for an unrelated grand larceny charge, and later confessed to the shooting in a video statement.
