It was BAM-tastic!
The Brooklyn Academy of Music hosted its star-studded annual gala at Franklin Street’s Brooklyn Expo Center on May 15.
BAM honored actor, writer, and director Ethan Hawke, novelist Walter Mosley, and other notables at the center between Noble and Oak streets.
Hawke appeared in the academy’s 2009 flick, “Winter’s Tale/Cherry Orchard,” and also was an ambassador for its arts and education initiative, Ignite.
The arts institution honored Mosley for his keynote speech at its annual tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. in 2011 and for his participation in its “Eat, Drink & Be Literary” event.
Other actors of note at the event were Bobby Cannavaly, John Turturro, and Live Schreiber.
The gala had a host of musical acts, including Neneh Cherry and Raja Feather Kelly’s company the feath3r theory, as well as an art auction and an after party.
The gala’s hosts were the academy’s director David Binder and its board chairman Adam Max.
They also honored the philanthropists William Campbell and Christine Wächter-Campbell for their contributions to film, literature, performing and visual arts, and cultural philanthropy.
