A burglary pattern in the 78th Precinct was stopped cold in its tracks by cops who were recently honored by the 78th Precinct Community Council.
On March 3, Officer Talat Awad, a member of the precinct’s anti−crime patrol, noticed two males behaving suspiciously. He promptly followed the men, and sure enough, one entered a residence on Union Street, while the other waited outside. The man returned from the home with an object hidden under his coat, according to Lt. Patrick Diskin, who filled in at the April 28 meeting for Deputy Inspector John Argenziano, the commanding officer of the 78th Precinct. Awad sprung into action to nab both cat burglars, who have prior burglary arrests, according to Diskin.
On March 23, Michael Furia spotted two men who were also walking suspiciously, made even more so by their erratic movements on local streets, Diskin said. Furia tailed the pair, and caught up with them at the northern end of the precinct, by Eighth Avenue, where one of the men entered a building. Furia promptly arrested the duo for attempted burglary and possession of burglary tools, Diskin said.
In the two separate incidents, “the arrest of those four males [ended] a prolific burglary pattern in the neighborhood, and made Park Slope a safer place to live,” the lieutenant added.
Also honored was Police Officer Chancellor Bishop, a recent “Cop of the Month,” who earned accolades last week for arrested a man brandishing a loaded weapon in the vicinity of the Wyckoff Gardens housing development on March 11. The arrest was already cop’s third gun arrest in 2009, Diskin noted.
