Starret City is getting something to brag about.

The Burlington Coat Factory will be opening a massive new location in Starret City at the Gateway Center this time next year.

The 96,000-square-foot store will not only offer Brooklyn shoppers savings on clothes and housewares, but also provide anywhere from 50–100 new jobs.

“We are thrilled to open a new Burlington in Brooklyn,” said Thomas Kingsbury, Burlington president and chief executive officer.

The new location will be Brooklyn’s second location for the New Jersey-based, off-price coat dealer, joining an Atlantic Avenue location currently across the street from the Barclays Center.

The new store will include ladies’ dresses, suits, sportswear, juniors, accessories, menswear, family footwear and children’s clothing.

It also includes an assortment of furniture and accessories for babies, along with home décor and gifts, making the new retailer capable of competing with most other stores at the shopping center, expect perhaps Home Depot.

The Gateway II Shopping Center located next door to the Gateway Center had previously entertained the idea of hosting New York City’s first Walmart, but the deal fell through.

“We were unable to agree upon economic terms for a project in East New York,” Walmart spokesman Steve Restivo said in September last year.
