The Canarsie community is set to come together to celebrate summer and the spirit of togetherness on June 29.

Residents, local artists, elected officials and community organizations will gather at the nabe’s first Peaceful Summer Fest, a live music festival complete with entertainment, food, and family-friendly activities. The festival kicks off at I.S. 68 Park at 956 East 82nd St. at noon, and will wrap up around 5 p.m.

Organizers said the event is all about building unity and celebrating the spirit of togetherness. The festival is the brainchild of Man Up Inc. USA, a non-profit organization founded by A.T. Mitchell Mann, a New York City gun violence prevention czar.

“We are thrilled to bring the Peaceful Summer Fest to Canarsie. This festival is all about creating a safe and enjoyable space for our community to celebrate and have fun together,” Mann said.

This vibrant festival will feature live performances by some of the hottest talents in the music industry, including D Sturdy, Lil’ Mama and Lucky Banks.

“This festival is a great opportunity to demonstrate that love and community spirit will always triumph over violence,” said Council Member Mercedes Narcisse, who represents the neighborhood, in a statement. “I look forward to seeing everyone come together to enjoy this wonderful day and to build a stronger, safer Canarsie.”

Music isn’t all the summer fest will offer. Neighbors can enjoy a variety of food options from local vendors, participate in fun games and contests and take part in giveaways.

Jibreel Jalloh, founder of event co-sponsor The Flossy Organization, expressed his gratitude for Mann and MUSA’s efforts and looks forward to spending the day with the Canarsie community.

The Flossy Organization has been fighting to fund local anti-violence programs in Canarsie for years amid a wave of gun violence — especially among young people — in the neighborhood.

“Our community has suffered the loss of too many lives to violence, and more needs to be done. This festival is a positive step in the right direction, fostering unity and providing a safe, joyful space for all,” Jalloh said.
