It was a carnival to remember!
Students at a Sheepshead Bay academy serving kids with physical and mental disabilities enjoyed a fun afternoon filled with games, treats, and cool tunes setup just for them on July 31.
“Many of the students that you know can go to Coney Island, but these kids can’t so we bring it to them,” principal Antoinette Rose.
The Connie Lekas School, which serves 350 special needs students ages 12-21, held it’s 10th annual carnival at its Haring Street Campus between Avenue Y and Z, which featured attractions tailor-made for the academy’s unique student body.
“The carnival games are adapted so our students can play them, for example with the ring toss the rings were bigger and lighter,” said Rose.
The event also included ping pong with extra-large paddles, wheel-chair accessible photo booth, and life-size bingo sheets and tic tac toe.
And as the kids enjoyed face painting, water slide and free food, their parents got to kick back and take heart knowing their loved ones were well cared for, according to the principal.
“Everybody was having a good time, the parents didn’t have to worry about their kids because of the ongoing food and activities. It was wonderful,” Rose said.
