They gave her a glitzy welcome!
More than 600 guests flocked to Bric’s annual gala to celebrate the arts organization’s 40th anniversary, and the arrival of its new president, Kristina Newman-Scott, . The colorful gathering of the borough’s creative class, on Nov. 8 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, was a chance for Brooklyn’s diverse arts scene to meet the group’s new leader, who took over in September, said one organizer.
“As we celebrate Bric’s 40th anniversary, we are also thrilled and honored to welcome Kristina to Brooklyn. Her incredible energy and creativity will propel Bric to continue to advance its mission and commitment to our community,” said Hilary Ackermann, the chairwoman of Bric’s board.
The gala’s guest of honor, Newman-Scott, was formerly the Director of Culture for the State of Connecticut, and is the first immigrant and the first woman of color to lead the downtown arts group.
The evening, hosted by Brian Vines, of the BRIC TV show “Going in with Brian Vines,” featured several dazzling performances, in a music show from acclaimed bassist Meshell Ndegeocello and a dance performance organized by Michael Roberson, of the ballroom group House Lives Matter.
The fête also included a cocktail reception, seated dinner, and a live contemporary art auction, followed by a groovy dance party featuring music from famed DJ April Hunt. The gala raised more than $400,000, according to a press rep.
