Three cheers to Shyfra Scharf. The giving senior was recently honored for her 40 years of volunteer service to Maimonides Medical Center, along with 1,911 other volunteers, at a special recognition ceremony and luncheon at Paradise Manor on July 5.
Welcoming remarks were given by Kenneth Gibbs, president and chief executive officer at Maimonides, where he welcomed the more than 400 guests of family and friends that celebrated the remarkable combined 247,000 hours of service to the healing center in 2016.
“We’re inspired by your selflessness and deeply indebted to each one of you,” Gibbs said. “You make our hospital a better place for patients and staff.”
Douglas Jablon, senior veep of Patient Relations; Alla Zats, director of Volunteer and Student Services; Dominick Stanzione, executive veep and chief operating officer; City Councilman David Greenfield; and First Lady Chirlane McCray, the guest speaker, were among the hoi polloi that celebrated the event.
The First Lady said, “You have a positive impact on families and patients every day and it truly matters.”
Douglas Jablon said the luncheon was a success, and added, “we honored Shyfra Scharf, our volunteer for over 40 years. She started the Pesha Elias Bikur Cholim D’Bobov organization, whose volunteers have been visiting patients in the hospital and assisting in the Emergency Room for over three decades.”
Standing O gives a great big round O of applause to the volunteers — and especially to Shyfra Scharf, because she truly is outstanding.
