It it the opening of the Century!
Downtown’s City Point shopping center will finally open its doors — or at least some of them — on Tuesday when tourist mecca Century 21 launches its new store there.
The discount-designer department store will open its to the public at noon, and will give the first 250 people in line a “mystery gift card” valued up to $500.
Century 21 will be the only shop in the delay-plagued Fulton Mall complex opening that day, according to a spokeswoman for the chain.
Indie cinema chain Alamo Drafthouse was supposed to open its seven-screen outpost there in August, but the owners announced late that month that they had no idea when the movie house would actually launch, citing only unexpected “setbacks.”
Whimsical grocery store Trader Joe’s was also slated to open a market there this fall, but quietly revised its opening date to sometime next year.
Other emporiums eventually opening in the location formerly known as Albee Square Mall include a Target and a fancy food court that will include branches of Katz’s Delicatessen, Fletcher’s Brooklyn Barbecue, and the Arepa Lady.
