Smart kids know that if you want a merry Christmas, you have to go through Santa.
Good old Kris Kringle showed up at Our Lady of Grace Church’s annual Christmas Fair, held from Nov. 16 to 18, and some kids partook in the traditional present list, which St. Nick reviewed with his typical, jolly sense of humor.
“My god, one of the kids had 15 things on his list,” exclaimed Mary Ann De Luca, who helped organize the event as part of the Gravesend church’s Christmas Fair Committee.
On Saturday the kids got the chance to sprawl out at the foot of Father Christmas’s big-buckled boots to listen while he read the tale Frosty the Snowman, who unfortunately couldn’t make it due to the weather.
“I didn’t have a Frosty,” said De Luca. “It was probably too warm for him anyway.”
Around 70 kids showed up throughout the three-day fair, and while they were busy soliciting Santa for colorfully wrapped gifts, their parents spent the day buying the presents from vendors who’d set up shop in the church.
Mary Kay, Avon, Celebrate Home, Tastefully Delicious, and a variety of other vendors — including many amateur craftsmen and women — supported the church by buying tables from which to sell their wares.
Downstairs from the annual Christmas marketplace, volunteers donated their time to work in the cafeteria, while Girl Scouts helped the vendors out by taking orders and ferrying food between upstairs and down.
And at the church’s raffle one lucky winner walked away with a very desirable Kindle Fire, while runners-up went home with gift cards from Sunoco, Modells, and Best Buy.
