The Cyclones brushed off a three-game losing streak, squashing the Scrappers on Thursday night thanks much to a hot night at the plate from Ross Adolph.
Adolph, an Ohio native, went four-for-five with a triple in front of his home crowd, driving in three and hitting a solo homer in the first to get the Clones started.
Our boys scored two more the third before added four in the fourth when Carlos Cortes singled to drive in Walter Rasquin, who had tripled. After a pitching change and an out, Adolph singled to send Cortes home. With two on, Wagner Lagrange reached on a error and knocked in Angel Manzanarez, who had reached on a fielder’s choice. Chase Chambers then grounded into a force out to send home Adolph to make it 7–0 Clones.
Brooklyn tacked on three more in the sixth and Mahoning Valley answered with one in the fifth and three in the seventh, before Chambers smashed a two-run homer in the eighth.
Josh Walker made his professional debut on the mound for the Clones, striking out five, walking three, and keeping Mahoning Valley scoreless over almost four innings. Billy Oxford hurled from the fourth to the sixth, giving up one run, before Ryley Gilliam took over and gave up three.
Our boys head to West Virginia tonight where they’ll take on the Black Bears at 7:05 pm.
