Cyclones reliever Yeudy Colon choked with Brooklyn ahead by one in the bottom of the ninth, allowing a single that scored Hudson Valley’s tieing run and then balking with a runner on third, sealing the Renegades’s victory at 6–5.
The crushing loss came just two days after Brooklyn fell to the Aberdeen Ironbirds on Aug. 3 thanks to another Colon error that cost our boys the game in the final inning of play.
Brooklyn took the lead early, with Chase Chambers knocking a two-run homer in the first that also brought in Ross Adolph, who had singled. The Renegades fired back later that inning, scoring one, before the Clones padded its lead in the fourth when Jose Miguel Medina doubled to bring in Chambers, who had singled, to make it 3–1.
Carlos Cortes smacked a second two-run homer in the top of the fifth, but Hudson Valley managed to score three later that inning, narrowing the gap to 5–4, before going on to clinch victory in the ninth.
Brooklyn starting hurler Jaison Vilera broke his scoreless streak, allowing one run over four and a third innings, before pitchers Andrew Mitchell, Adam Hill, and Colon hit the mound to throw relief.
The Clones hope to seek revenge on the Renegades tonight in Hudson Valley at 7:05 pm.
