Cyclones 2

Aug. 5 at MCU Park

There isn’t much else to say at this point.

The Cyclones came back from 2–0 deficit, but it all went for naught as the Spinners took the lead again and the Cyclones lost for the third straight time — their eighth defeat in the last ten games.

The Spinners struck first in the third. Yomar Valentin doubled to right then advanced to third after Michael Osinski grounded out to third. Frankie Rios then singled to score Valentin. Rios stole second, advanced to third after ball 4 to Garrett Benge, and then scored after Carl Stajduhar made a fielding error at third to make it 2–0.

The Cyclones caught up not too long after. Cecilio Aybar led off the fifth with a double before Walter “Rabbi” Rasquin singled to advance Aybar to third. Rasquin and Aybar then completed the delayed double steal when Rasquin stole second before Aybar stole home. Leon Byrd then flied out to center to advance Rasquin to third before Spinners pitcher Emmanuel DeJesus threw a wild pitch to score him to tie the game.

It didn’t take long for the Spinners to take the lead back. Barriento doubled to lead off the sixth before Zach Sterry singled to score him to make it 3–2.

The closest the Clones came to catching up was in the eighth. With Jose Miguel Medina on first, Quinn “Chief” Brodey reached first on a force out. The Chief then stole both second and third base, but Stajduhar and Scott Manea struck out to kill the Cyclones rally. That was as close as they were going to get.

The loss further cements this Cyclones team as the worst in franchise history, with a horrible 14–31 record, good enough for dead last in the division, and eight games behind the second-to-last-place Hudson Valley Renegades.
