Clones lose again to Tri-City

Tri-City 5

Cyclones 2

Aug. 21 at Tri–City

Starter Jose Butto gave up five runs over four innings, and our boys fell to the Valley Cats.

Down three in the ninth with two outs, the Clones had runners at the corners with the tying run at the plate, but Dylan Tice flew out to end the game.

The Clones scored one in the seventh when Manny Rodriguez singled in Chase Chambers, who had singled and moved to second on a grounder. Brooklyn shortened the deficit again in the eighth when Tice, who had walked before moving to second on a walk and advancing to third on a groundout, scored on a failed pick-off attempt.

Stellar pitching from relievers Tommy Wilson and Billy Oxford kept Tri-City from inflicting any more damage, but the offense couldn’t make up the difference.

Brooklyn is now two games out of first place, at 34–28. Hudson Valley beat Connecticut yesterday putting them at 36–26, while Staten Island was shut out by Lowell, putting them at 32–28.

Our boys hope to avoid the sweep tonight at 7 pm in Tri-City.
