Make it eight in a row!
Cyclones starter Luis de los Santos had a not-so-stellar outing on the mound, allowing four hits and three runs in two-and-two-thirds innings pitched, and the Cyclones’ bats mustered up 10 hits but just one run as our boys lost their eighth straight game and were eliminated from the playoffs.
The ValleyCats wasted no time getting on the board. In the bottom of the first, Bryan de la Cruz hit a lead-off solo home run. Two innings later, Adrian Tovalin hit a single with bases loaded to score J.J. Matijevic and Jonathan Arauz to make it 3–0.
The Cyclones got on the board a short while later. Jeremy Vazquez was walked to lead off the sixth then advanced to second off a wild pitch. Carl Stajduhar then grounded out to advance Vazquez to third before Scott Manea singled to score Vazquez to make it 3–1.
The ValleyCats added an insurance run one inning later. With runners on the corners, Miguelangel Sierra singled to score De La Cruz to make it 4–1.
The loss puts the Cyclones at 15–41 on the season, last place in the McNamara Division.
Now that the Cyclones have won the “Battle for the Basement,” our boys will start the “Drive for 20” — a grass-roots push to have them win at least 20 games.
We need five wins, folks, and it all starts today against Tri-City in Tri-City (wherever that is) tonight at 5 pm.
