Cyclones’ reliever Yeudy Colon uncorked a wild pitch and Ironbird J.C. Escarra scampered home from third in the 10th, breaking a 4–4 tie and leading to the Clones latest loss.
Escarra was placed on second at the start of the inning thanks to a dumb new rule in the minors aimed at speeding up extra-inning games. Escarra advanced to third on a groundout to second before scoring on the wild pitch.
The Clones got the same opportunity in the bottom of the frame, when Wagner Lagrange was placed a second to start the inning. Manager Edguardo Alfonzo ordered Chandler Avant to bunt Lagrange over to third, which he did, but Lagrange tried to score on Anthony Dirocie’s ground ball to third and was cut down at the plate. “Iron”Brian Sharpe then grounded to first to end the game.
This is the second time the dumb rule has lead to a Cyclone loss.
Our boys took a two run lead in the first when Chase Chambers grounded out to knock in Ross Adolph, who had singled, before Carlos Cortes was sent home on a balk.
Aberdeen then scored three in the second to take the lead, and one more in the third to make it 4–2.
The Clones tied it up in the eighth, when Sharp singled to drive in Lagrange, who had singled and moved to third on a single and a walk, before Walter “Rabbi” Rasquin singled to knock in Avant, who was pinch running for Chase Chambers, who had singled.
The two teams face off again tonight at MCU Park at 6 pm.
