The Cyclones crushed Connecticut last night, sweeping a series with the Tigers for the second time this season, thanks to a second-inning rally that put Brooklyn in front for the rest of the game.
Chandler Avant got our boys on the board with a two-run homer in the second that plated Anthony Dirocie, who had walked and stolen second.
Nick Meyer, Manny Rodriguez, and Ross Adolph then cracked three successive singles, loading the bases before Carlos Cortes doubled to drive them all in and bring the score to 5–0.
The Cyclones padded the lead in the fourth. Adolph cracked a single that brought in Rodriguez, who had singled, and reached second on an error, then rounded home on a Cortes single, making it 7–0 Brooklyn.
Connecticut batters mustered two runs in the seventh, but the Cylones swung back the next inning, scoring two in the eighth when Jose Miguel Medina smacked a home run that also plated Walter “Rabbi” Rasquin, after he singled.
Starter Kyle Wilson pitched five no-hit innings, striking out 10 to become the first Cyclone with double-digit strikeouts since Jason Vargas’s rehab stint.
Brooklyn secured a firm second in the New York-Penn League McNamara Division with the win, which puts our boys three games ahead of evil Staten Island, and three behind Hudson Valley.
The Clones hit the road to face the Spinners in Lowell tonight at 5:35 pm.
