Kendall Coleman’s two-out, bases-loaded walk-off single in the ninth sealed the win for the Cyclones over the Spinners last night, allowing Brooklyn to walk away victorious with two wins in its three-game series against the New Englanders.
Down by one going into the final frame, Jose Brizuela walked and later scored on a Jose Miguel Medina double, tying the game at 3.
Medina advanced to third on a single by Dionis Paulino, but was thrown out at the plate when he tried to sneak home on an infield single by Carlos Sanchez. After Ross Adolph struck out looking, Chase Chambers was intentionally walked, setting the stage for Coleman, who came to the Cyclones via a trade with the hated Staten Island Yankees.
Before giving it up, Lowell took the lead early, when Xavier LeGrant whacked a two-run homer to left in the first off starter Christian James. But the Clones tied it up in the second when Coleman drove in Adolph, who had singled and stolen second, and Kevin Hall, who had walked and moved to third on Coleman’s single, scored on a passed ball to tie it at two.
James ended up throwing 4.1 innings of eight-hit ball, striking out three.
Billy Oxford earned the win in relief, striking out five in two perfect innings.
Brooklyn’s Boys of Summer take a well-deserved day off tonight, before heading to Vermont to take on the Lake Monsters tomorrow at 7:05 pm.
