Police arrested a driver they say hit and killed a woman while driving drunk on Atlantic Avenue in Boerum Hill Sunday evening.

Brownsville resident Jasen Nhambiu, 49, was heading heading westbound between Third Avenue and Nevins Street when he allegedly struck 62-year-old local Alina Morales just after 7:45 pm, according to police reports.

Paramedics rushed Morales to Brooklyn Hospital Center where she was pronounced dead.

Nhambiu stayed on the scene of the crash but officers believed he was drunk and they brought him to the 84th Police Precinct to take a breathalyzer test, according to a police spokeswoman.

He refused to take the breath test at first, but once he did, police arrested him on felony drunk driving charges, along with charges of driving without a license.

Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez’s office is still processing the case and Nhambiu is expected to be arraigned Monday night, according to DA spokesman Oren Yaniv.
