Cops: Driver hits, kills Bensonhurst senior on New Year’s Eve

A driver struck and killed a Bensonhurst senior blocks from his home on New Year’s Eve, police said on Wednesday.

The motorist behind the wheel of a 2017 Honda Accord was traveling along New Utrecht Avenue towards 82nd Street, and fatally hit 69-year-old Mustag Ahmad around 6:30 pm as the victim crossed the avenue, according to cops, who said the victim was outside of a crosswalk.

But a Google image of the crash site taken in June 2018 shows no painted crosswalk across New Utrecht Avenue near 82nd Street, and neither cops nor reps for the city’s Department of Transportation did not immediately reply when asked if workers installed the infrastructure in the months since.

Paramedics rushed Ahmad — who lived on 76th Street near 18th Avenue, and sustained severe head trauma — to Maimonides Medical Center, where doctors pronounced him dead the next day, officials said.

The driver, meanwhile, remained at the scene, and officers did not immediately arrest him, according to police, who said their investigation into the incident is ongoing.
