July 12 at Mahoning Valley (10 innings)

For this year’s Brooklyn Cyclones, no lead is safe.

Cyclones relievers Tony Dibrell and Gregorix Estevez coughed up a two-run cushion in the ninth before Estevez allowed a game-winning double in the 10th and the Cyclones fell to the Scrappers.

The Clones had a 4–2 lead entering the inning, but it quickly became 4–3 when Dibrell served up a dinger to Jason “J-Rod” Rodriguez. After a Tyler Friis singled on the next at-bat, manager Edgardo Alfonzo, sensing doom, replaced Dibrell with Estevez, but Estevez only made things worse.

Friis advanced to third when Estevez overthrew first base in a pickoff attempt, then followed that with a wild pitch. Samand Taylor then grounded into a force out that scored Friis, tying the game at four.

Our boys had a chance to take the lead in the 10th when Franklin Correa led off with a triple, but Leon Byrd, Reed Gamache, and Quinn Brodey failed to capitalize, leaving him on third to end the inning.

Their failure to proved costly when Rodriguez double off Estevez with one out in the 10th to score Jesse Berardi, earning the Scrappers a scrappy win.

On the bright side, Jose Miguel Medina had two hits and drove in one run.

The loss puts our boys at a miserable 6–16 on the season, which keeps them dead last in the McNamara Division, one-and-a-half games back of the Hudson Valley Renegades.

The Cyclones hope to avoid the sweep tonight at 7 pm in the crevasse.
