It was a nail-biter till the ninth.
Reliever Gregorix Estevez’s throwing error in the ninth led to two Renegade runs and a Cyclone rally in the bottom of the inning fell short as the Clones lost for the second time in two nights.
With the score 3–2 in the final frame, Estevez walked Bill Pujols to start the frame, and the speedster made it to third base on a ground out to third, never stopping as he rounded second.
Deion Tansel then bounced one back to Estevez, who threw the ball past first baseman Reed Gamache, allowing the run to score and putting Tansel on second.
Manager Edgardo Alfonzo then went to Keaton Aldridge, who promptly allowed a double to Oscar Rojas, putting the Clones down 5-2.
Two doubles and a walk to start the bottom of the frame gave Cyclones fans hope, but the tying run never came around as a pop-out and double play ended the game.
Cyclones starter Jake Simon took the loss, giving up three runs in five-and-a-third-innings of work, and lead-off hitter Leon Bird had two hits, scored a run, and drove one in for the Brooklyn.
The loss makes it three in a row now for the Cyclones, putting them at 2-4 and in a tie for dead last in their division with the Aberdeen Ironbirds.
The Cyclones hope to avoid the sweep against the Renegades at MCU tonight at 7 pm.
