Cyclones 7

July 29 in Lowell

Nicolas Debora was taken for a spin by Lowell’s bats, allowing six hits and six runs in three innings, as the Cyclones were swept by the Spinners.

The Cyclones got on the board quickly when Reed Gamache singled with runners on second and third to score Dylan Snypes in the first, but the Spinners responded with a four-run rally in the bottom of the inning, and the game was pretty much over — just like in that famous scene from “Family Guy.”

With the bases loaded, Zach Sterry doubled to left field to clear them, scoring Michael Osinski, Brett Netzer, and Marino Campana. Jordan Wren then singled to score Sterry from second to make it 4–1.

The Spinners added one run to the lead in each of the next three innings, butting Lowell up by six.

The Clones made up some ground in the sixth when Carl Stajduhar doubled to score Quinn Brodey, but the Spinners added even more to their lead in the bottom of the inning when Netzker doubled to score both Osinski and Aybar.

The Cyclones and the Spinners exchanged runs in the eighth when Stajduhar hit a sacrifice fly to score Brodey and Netzer doubled to score Osinski.

The Cyclones’ bats came alive in the ninth, but it was not enough. After Jeremy Wolf hit a lead-off single, Jose Miguel Medina doubled to score Wolf. After Snypes was hit by a pitch and Cecilio Aybar singled to load the bases, Brodey was hit by a pitch to score Medina. Gamache then singled to score Snypes before Stajduhar walked to score Aybar.

This loss puts our boys at 12–26 for the season, which is still good for dead last in the McNamara Division, now five games ahead of the Hudson Valley Renegades — after that team split a doubleheader with Aberdeen — in the “Battle for the Basement.”

Meanwhile, the hated Staten Island Yankees are perched in the same division fresh off a no-hitter by four pitchers against the Tri-City ValleyCats.
