Cyclones 2

Aug. 6 at MCU Park

Cyclones starter Luis De Los Santos got rocked on the mound, allowing seven hits and four runs, as the Cyclones lost to the Spinners, the team’s fourth straight loss.

The Cyclones and the Spinners exchanged runs early. In the top of the first, Jeremy Vazquez doubled with Yomar Valentin on second to score him, but the Cyclones came back to tie it when Jeremy Vazquez doubled with Walter “Rabbi” Rasquin on second to score him in the bottom of the same inning.

The Spinners were quick to retake the lead. With runners on first and third, Nicolos Hamilton grounded into a force out to score Marino Campana in the second.

The runs kept coming for the Spinners in the next inning. Frankie Rios led off the third with a triple before Garrett Benge grounded out to first to score him. Juan Barriento singled and Zach Sterry then walked to load the bases before Nick Sciortino walked to score Benge, making it 4–1.

Our boys did all they could to keep themselves in the game. Rasquin doubled and then advanced to third off a wild pitch. Leon Byrd then singled to score Rasquin to make it 2, but that was all the Cyclones got as they wound up losing the game.

The Cyclones are now 14–32 which is good for worst in both the McNamara Division and the New York Penn League. The one upside to all of this is that the Rabbi continues to be one of the best hitters in the league, but it takes more than one player to win the game. If the Cyclones hope to turn the season around — don’t laugh — they need contributions from more than just Rasquin.

The Cyclones hope to get help from more than just Rasquin tonight at 7 pm at MCU.
