Cyclones 4

Aberdeen 3

Aug. 4 at MCU Park

Ross Adolph’s sacrifice fly in the seventh drove in Hayden Senger, breaking a 3–3 tie and leading the Cyclones to victory against the Ironbirds in front of a crowd of 7,758 on “Seinfeld Night” at MCU Park.

The Clones took a one-run lead in the fifth before Aberdeen got in front off a two-run homer from J.C. Escarra in the sixth.

Brooklyn took back the lead in the bottom of the card when Angel Manzanarez, who had singled on a bunt and moved to third off a double from Adolph, scored on a wild pitch, before Carlos Cortes doubled to plate Adolph and put Brooklyn in front.

Aberdeen tied it up in the seventh on a run-scoring single from Robbie Thorburn, before Adolph’s sacrifice fly put our boys on top for good.

Yeizo Campus pitched into the seventh, giving up three runs on eight hits while striking out four, and Ryley Gilliam earned his third save of the year, giving up a hit and strking out two in the ninth.

The Seinfeld night crowd was the largest at MCU so far this season despite the fact most players were born after the popular New York City-set show went off the air.

To them, it might as well have been “I Love Lucy Night,” remarked one beat writer while leaving the ball park.

“I’d go to that,” said Ruth Brown, a fan who traveled to the game from Downtown, befriended Keith Hernandez, and later helped him move.

At last report, no one was spit on by Roger McDowell from the gravelly road behind the bushes.

Our boys head to Hudson Valley to take on the first place Renegades — whom they sit two-and-a-half games behind in the McNamara Division— tonight at 5:05 pm.
