Cyclones squeak one out in the ninth

Cyclones 3

Aberdeen 2

July 13 in Aberdeen

Sloppy play by the Ironbirds allowed the Cyclones to come back from a 2–1 deficit in the ninth.

Trailing by a run with one out in the ninth, Chase Chambers singled to bring Walter “Rabbi” Rasquin to third. Chandler Avant then ran for Chambers before Wagner Lagrange singled in the Rabbi, tying the score. Brian Sharp then bounced back to the box and pitcher Diogenes Almengo went to second for the double play. But shortstop Milton Ramos’s throw back to first was off line, allowing Avant to score the go-ahead run.

Clone hurler Ryley Gilliam came in to close the game out in the bottom of the frame, striking out the first two batters before giving up two singles. But he then fanned Alexis Torres on three pitches to end the match.

Brooklyn got ahead early, scoring one in the second, but Aberdeen scored two in the third to take the lead until the ninth. Christian James pitched six strong innings, striking out two and allowing just three hits and two unearned runs.

Our boys return home to start a series against Williamsport tonight at 6 pm at MCU Park.
