Brooklyn hurler Ryley Gilliam gave up a two-run homer with the Cyclones ahead 5–4 in the bottom of the ninth, allowing the Renegades to come from behind and clinch victory from our boys in their second-straight walk-off loss against Hudson Valley last night.
The Clones pulled ahead early, scoring three in the first. Carlos Cortes singled to knock in Ross Adolph, who had tripled, before being tagged out as he tried to reach second on the hit. Anthony Dirocie later smacked a double that brought in Walter Rasquin and Chase Chambers, who each had singled, putting Brooklyn up 3–0.
The Renegades swung back in the third, tieing it up 3–3 in the bottom of that inning, but the Cyclones got out in front again in the fourth when Nick Meyer hit a sacrifice fly that scored Dirocie after he singled and stole second base.
Hudson Valley plated in the seventh to tie it at four, but Brooklyn again crept ahead in the eighth when Jose Miguel Medina cracked a double that drove home Chandler Avant, after he was walked and stole second, before our boys gave up the two runs that cost them the game in the next inning.
Brooklyn pulled its starting pitcher Eric Hanhold in the top of the third, replacing him with Jose Butto, who gave up four runs before being replaced by Billy Oxford in the seventh. Gilliam took the mound the next inning, closing out the eighth before giving up Hudson Valley’s tieing and game-winning runs in the ninth.
The Clones hope to avoid a sweep tonight when they take the field for game three against the Renegades at 7:05 pm.
