It was an attack of the Clones!

Brooklyn’s Boys of Summer gave an all-around terrific performance at bat, earning nine hits and six runs, as they triumphed over the hated Yankees to split the four-game stand with the evil empire.

The squads kept pace with each other through the top of the fifth, which ended at an even 4–4. But a bottom-inning double by Clones left fielder Quinn Brodey — whose throwing error allowed a run for Staten Island earlier in the match — plated Leon Byrd Jr. and Matt Winaker, pushing the Cyclones ahead 6–4 and allowing them to cruise to victory.

The Clones got on the board first when, with runners on first and third and no outs in the bottom of the third, Franklin Correa singled in Carl Stajduhar, breaking the teams’ scoreless tie. Leon Byrd Jr. followed Correa’s single with a double that scored Scott Manea, and then Reed Gamache doubled in Correa and Byrd, making it 4–0.

Staten Island struck back in the fourth when Cesar Diaz singled in Dalton Blaser and Brodey’s error scored Manny Argomaniz. And the evil empire tied the game in the next inning when Blaser and Cody Brown scored on Ryan Krill’s triple.

But those were the last runs allowed by Cyclones hurlers, as relievers Darwin Ramos, Trey Cobb, and Keaton Aldridge did not give up another for the duration of the game.

Ramos earned his first win, making him 1–2 on he season, and Aldridge got the save.

Manager Edgardo “Fonzie” Alfonzo said that performances like yesterday’s will serve the team well going forward.

“When we do the little things together, it’ll be a great tool to have every time,” he said. “And that’s what we did today.”

The win puts Brooklyn at 6–14 for the season, still in last in the McNamara Division, but now only half a game behind Hudson Valley.

The Cyclones get tonight off, but will return to the field on Tuesday when they face the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in Mahoning Valley at 7 pm.
