– Lisa J. Curtis

The 25-year-old Thelma Hill Performing
Arts Center, headquartered at 30 Third Ave. in the Brooklyn YWCA,
begins another season of staging new dance works on Saturday
at Long Island University’s Triangle Theatre.

This year’s series, "The Souls of Our Feet: People of Color
Dance Festival" begins with performances on June 2 and June
3 at 8 pm. Nia Love (pictured) returns and is joined by Kraig
Patterson’s bopi black sheep and Reggie Wilson’s Fist & Heel
Performance Group for the "Urban Dandelions" program.

Love will perform "Bringin’ It Together" a new work
she created with saxophonist/jazz composer Antoine Roney. Marlies
Yearby, of Urban Bush Women, has also returned this year to curate
the "Urban Dandelions" program.

On June 16 and June 17 at 8 pm, "Toenails of Steel and Ruby
Red Text," a showcase of works by lesbian and gay choreographers
and writers, will explore new dance forms and ideas. Ron K. Brown
and Cheryl Boyce Taylor are the program’s curators.

On June 23 and June 24 at 8 pm, "Color Pointes" will
feature works by classically trained choreographers. Marshall
Swiney is the curator.

On June 29 and June 30 at 8 pm, "Women Dancemakers,"
curated by Fort Greene resident and Brooklyn Arts Exchange veteran
Andrea E. Woods, will feature works by women choreographers of
color: Hope Boykin, Marlene Myrtil, Melissa Wynn, Judith Sanchez
and Cheng-Chieh Yu.

Also included in the series are workshops and a children’s event.
Tickets to the performances at the Triangle Theater, at Flatbush
and DeKalb avenues, are $12; $8 students and seniors. For tickets
