The Brooklyn Paper and Brooklyn Independent Television’s “Debate Week” goes citywide with tonight’s exciting comptroller forum on the BCAT TV Network — a battle featuring the candidates to succeed mayoral wannabe Bill Thompson and become the city’s official bean counter.

The 9 pm cablecast tonight includes all four aspirants — Councilmembers David Yassk (D-Brooklyn Heights) and his Queens colleagues John Liu, Melinda Katz and David Weprin — and is moderated by Brian Vines of Brooklyn Independent Television.

The taping last week featured lots of fireworks — so watching it is not only entertaining, but good for democracy.

Check it out tonight on the BCAT TV Network, which is channel 56 on Time Warner customers and channel 69 for Cablevision subscribers.

In addition, it will be available online starting on Wednesday at www.bricartsmedia.org/BITspecials and the Community Newspaper Group’s new political Web site BoroPolitics.com.

That’s where you’ll find the earlier debates in our series, including the race to succeed Yassky in the 33rd District and the fight to succeed Councilman Bill DeBlasio in the 39th District.

“Debate Week” continues tomorrow with the final debate in our exhilerating series — the race for public Advocate, featuring DeBlasio, Mark Green, Norman Siegel and Councilman Eric Gioia.

That free-for-all, moderated by Brooklyn Paper Editor Gersh Kuntzman, will air Friday, Aug. 21 (repeated on Tuesday, Aug. 25), at 9 pm. It will also be available online roughly 24 hours later.
