A Red Hook Chinese-food delivery man who was crushed by a tree as it was being cut down by city workers on Monday has died.

Jin An Liu was riding his motorized bicycle on a pathway inside Coffey Park around 1 pm as two parks department contractors were pruning and removing trees there, when one came crashing down on top of him, officials said.

Paramedics rushed Liu to Methodist Hospital, but he died the next day, according to a New York Post report.

Workers cutting down trees are supposed to keep the area safe with traffic cones, caution tape, and a person on the ground warding people off, a parks department spokeswoman said. But a witnesses claims the Hook workers only had someone on the ground, and he was not able to stop Liu from riding past.
