Anthony Dirocie smacked a three-run homer, turning a 2–0, sixth-inning deficit into a 3–2 lead, and powering the Cyclones to victory over the Valley Cats.
“I was looking for a good pitch to hit,” Dirocie said through a translator after the game. “They were sending a lot of different pitches but I just kept going.”
Tri–City took the lead in the second when starter Josh Walker gave up a first-pitch, two- run homer to Alex McKenna — his third of the series. All five home runs McKenna has hit so far in his short career have been against Brooklyn.
Walker threw five innings of two-run ball, allowing six hits and striking out five. Trent Johnson took over in the sixth and kept Tri–City at bay before Yeudy Colon closed out the ninth.
Rehabbing Met Todd Frazier went one-for-four with a single in the fourth, and recorded the last out of the game, tagging Carlos Machado trying to advance from first to third on a single just in time off a great throw from Ross Adolph in center field.
“Oh god, don’t even bring that up,” manager Edgardo Alfonzo said when the close call in the ninth was mentioned after the game.
“It was a really good play from Adolph,” Alfonzo said. “Making a perfect throw to third base, that was the only way he was going to get that guy out.”
