Driver fatally collides with empty car in Brighton Beach

A man died on Monday after smashing his van into another vacant vehicle parked on a Brighton Beach street, cops said.

Leonid Rusinov, 56, was driving his Dodge Ram cargo van towards Coney Island Avenue on Neptune Avenue when he suffered what police called an “apparent medical episode” near Cass Place just before 5 pm, losing control of his vehicle, and veering into oncoming traffic before smashing into the unoccupied car, according to authorities.

Officers called to the scene found Rusinov, who lived on Staten Island, unconscious and unresponsive inside his van, and paramedics rushed him to Coney Island Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead, cops said.

Authorities are still investigating the fatal incident, according to a Police Department spokesman, who said the deceased’s van was not a commercial vehicle, and couldn’t immediately specify what type of medical episode prompted him to lose control of it.
