A man died after a motorist smashed his SUV into a security booth near the entrance of an industrial hall in Greenpoint Thursday night.

The 62-year-old man was driving north on Provost Street in a Ford Explorer just after 8 p.m. on Sept. 12 , when he attempted to make a left onto Paidge Avenue and crashed into the booth that the 72-year-old victim was occupying, according to an investigation by the Police Department’s Collision Investigation Squad.

The driver “failed to properly navigate the roadway” while making his turn, but a spokesman for the department could not clarify how exactly he ended up swerving into the booth at the entrance to an industrial hall.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and brought the victim to Bellevue Hospital with injuries to his legs and he was later pronounced dead, according to the authorities.

Police did not arrest the driver, who remained on the scene, and the investigation remains ongoing, according to a spokesman for the department.

The authorities are withholding the victim’s name pending family notification, according to the spokesman.
