An East New York man has been charged with terrorizing three people with anti-white hate crimes.
Kevin Raphael was arraigned on Sept. 26 for charges which include allegedly yelling anti-white sentiments and physically assaulting two people over the course of three days, according to the district attorney’s office.
“This defendant allegedly terrorized three people during a hate-filled crime spree simply because of the color of their skin,” said District Attorney Eric Gonzalez. “In Brooklyn, everyone regardless of their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender or religion must be able to safely navigate the streets without fear of being senselessly and violently attacked.”
Raphael allegedly approached a man who was walking with his pregnant wife near Empire Boulevard and Rogers Avenue on July 29 and yelled: “What are you looking at? What are you looking for? I kill white 9expletive0 like you,” while motioning to his waistband, making the victim think that he was carrying a weapon. He then said: “I will kill every white (expletive) around here,” according to the indictment.
The next day, he allegedly continued his spree of hate by approaching a law student sitting on a B25 bus near Fulton and Bond streets, punching him in the face, and saying: “I hate all you white (expletive). You’re a (expletive).” Raphael then exited the bus at the next stop leaving his alleged victim suffering redness and bruising to his face and eye, the indictment read.
On the following day, he allegedly walked up to a doctor on the B41 bus at Flatbush Avenue and Kings Highway and punched him repeatedly while saying: “You white (expletive) think you got it like that. You white (expletive).”
The victim suffered a concussion, bruising and redness to his face and eye, according to authorities.
Raphael’s charges include third-degree assault as a hate crime, third-degree menacing as a hate crime, and aggravated harassment, according to the district attorney’s office.
The defendant was ordered held on bail of $50,000 cash or $25,000 bond and to return to court on Oct. 24, according to the district attorney’s office.
Raphael’s defense counsel declined to comment on the charges.
